As a voice teacher it is my privilege to help my students along their paths of vocal development, self discovery and expression. I believe that it is always important to develop talent and nurture dreams. My students range from young and older beginners to advanced and professional level singers. I give private lessons in my studios in Scotts Valley and San Jose, California, with one afternoon a week in Santa Cruz, by special arrangement.

As a singer I have embraced many styles of music from early Baroque to the premier of many new works, musical theater, opera, chamber music, recital, cabaret and jazz standards. My venues have been as varied as an opera stage, a cathedral, a jazz club or a private room in a nursing home. My mission is to illuminate the intent of the composer both musically and through the expression of the text.

  • Looking Back

Looking back:  As I prepare to launch this website I'd like to look back over the past year in our studio.  There were many successes to note and celebrate, and we certainly kept busy!

In February 2010 I performed with the Santa Cruz Chamber Players, songs by Amy Beach and Maurice Ravel (Chansons Madecasses).

Greg is just finishing a run of The Fantasticks, playing El Gallo.

In CM 2009 we had 10 students enrolled.  Some didn't finish due to illness, but 6 did!!  Now we're busy preparing for CM 2010.  Madeline, Kelly and Brandon are all at level 7 this year.

  • Looking Forward

Looking forward:  Students are busy preparing CM repertoire and theory, and recital and audition repertoire.  I have 8 students participating in CM.  And three are entered in the TBAF:  Brandon, Carl and Kelly.  The NATS Festival is coming up...still in the planning phases.  Amy is competing in the NATSAA on 2/27....same day as the studio recital. Madeline will be in her HS musical.

Three students, Jan, Lorri and Sheila, are singers in the Choral Project, and will be performing in Tucson next week at the ACDA convention. They also have a concert in March with performances in Santa Cruz and Santa Clara.

Paul is in Kismet with Lyric Theatre, and their show opens very soon.  Jean sings in the Santa Clara Chorale, and their concert is coming up very soon as well.

Plans for this season included offering a once a month group class in the new studio.  I'd like to be able to explore some activities that can be done as a group, such as acting exercizes and some yoga moves.  And most of all, I want there to be an opportunity for the students to sing for each other in a casual setting, to learn from each other, and start trying out those new pieces.  So far we have met twice. I'd like this to become a more regular offering in my studio.
